The song ends with a great shot of the Bat Signal over Gotham.

Tonight's episode opens up with some unfinished business from last week. Arthur realizes Kandy's file is missing from his desk. He whips out the Oracle Smartphone and it tells him her case is being handled by Jason Thorne's legal team. He gets down to the street just in time to catch Kandy getting into Jason's limo. They have a tense conversation, but Arthur relents. Though he promises to keep an eye on the case. Jason cuts their conversation short when he gets a text from one of his father's old friends.

Nika is also working late tonight. She is sitting in Gordon's office trying to convince him to let her try to flip Kandy to give her dirt on Jason.  Gordon asks why Nika was gunning for Jason. She says it is because it is only a matter of time until he becomes his father, and she wanted to prevent it, if possible.

GORDON: And how do you feel about becoming your father?
NIKA: I'd consider it an honor, sir.

Timmy is getting ready to leave for the night. Morgan is there and they have a brief exchange about how Morgan doesn't ever seem to leave. He takes off and leaves her to her work. She straightens up a few things and heads into the general freezer. She opens it and find a body on a gurney that hasn't been put away. She checks to see who it is and is stunned. This is no Jane Doe.

MORGAN: How the hell did you turn up here?

The camera  shifts to reveal the Bat's famous silhouette.

THE BAT: I brought her here.
MORGAN: Why am I not surprised?

Dr. O'Neill gets in a few good shots on The Bat, but he causes her to challenge her opinion of him quickly.

THE BAT: Nora is an innocent in all this. Despite everything Freeze has done in her name. You are the only person that can keep her alive while I make other arrangements for her safety.

She holds his glare for a second.

MORGAN: Tell Gordon. Nobody else is allowed down here. No other innocents need to suffer. Now get out of my morgue.

The camera fades from Nora's lifeless face to her, full of life, waving at the camera. It was a bright sunny day,

NORA: Oh, Victor, it's so warm and wonderful out here. I love you.

These images of Nora are from home movies. They are being projected on the scoreboard of an old hockey rink currently being used as Freeze's hideout. Jason meets Mr. Freeze on center ice. They skate around and talk shop. Freeze wants Jason to find something for him. Rupert Thorne had some of Freeze's essentials stored for him at the storage facility that burned down a week ago.
He also wants his medical journal back. That weird book that Morgan used at the end of last week's episode? That's the prize. Freeze has the word out on the street, but he wants Jason to find it to see if he can have a relationship like he did with Rupert. Jason agrees to help but their partnership sours when Freeze discovers a bug on Jason's person.

FREEZE: I hope you are listening, Penguin. This is the first and last time you interfere with my affairs.

Arthur heads home, finally, but his night is just beginning. He's surrounded by a biker gang at a stop light. The head biker tells him to hand over the book. Arthur has no idea what's going on and speeds off with the bikers in pursuit. He drives like a madman but can't quite shake all of them. Something, or someone lands on the roof of his car. The Bat here to save the day?

Nika gets a visit from her dad at the apartment. They talk about a few things, about Gordon and how her dad and the Commissioner don't see eye to eye on a few things.

We cut to The Iceberg Lounge where Jason storms in, ready to throw down with Penguin. Even though the odds are against him, Penguin tells Jason that he did bug him but in his office not his person. Who was listening to Jason's conversation then?

Before the bikers can pull Arthur out of the car, a thick gas covers the scene. The sounds of a fight ensue mixed in with the sounds of hysterical laughter. Arthur sees The Jester emerge from the smoke in a full smiling mask and holding some sort of gas gun.

ARTHUR: Who are you?
JESTER: Now, that's a funny story...

The Jester doses Arthur with his gas, the Last Laugh and pulls the car to safety. While Arthur laughs, the Jester interrogates one of the thugs. Freeze is on the loose.

Nika's visit with Dad gets personal. Seems rumors of her relationship with Tommy are circulating. Nika brushes them off. Just when it looks like Judge Hilton is going to get too personal, the window smashes in and Freeze attacks. Honestly, I think I'd be relieved more than terrified.

Arthur goes to Morgan for treatment from The Last Laugh. She assures him it is not Smilex gas but is not sure what it is. Gordon comes by to check on Nora's status. Arthur relates his tale and Gordon reveals the similarities to the vigilante known as The Jester. The Jester was a precursor to The Bat.

GORDON: It can't be the same one, though. He would have to be...well, older than me.

Arthur notices the morgue is on lockdown. He tries to get the information from Morgan, but her treatment sedates him and leaves him Conveniently Unconscious.

Nika is attacked by Freeze. He shoots up her apartment and looks to take her as a hostage. Reports have gotten back to him The Bat has his wife, Nora. The Jester swings onto the scene and they battle. Nika ushers her dad out of the apartment. Freeze and Jester trade blows. Freeze opens a cut on The Jester's hand. The Jester cracks open Freeze's suit and pumps it full of The Last Laugh. Freeze can't laugh and flees in pain.

Jason runs into Lisa while coincidentally visiting his sister. They talk about old times and in a moment of doubt, she gets upset and they charge down to the morgue. They force their way past Morgan, who is still busy making sure Arthur isn't suffering from Smilex gas. and see Nora. Lisa agrees to help Jason get Nora out of there.

Tommy shows up for a booty call at Nika's. He is as drunk as a skunk but even in this state, gets prickly when Nika wants to talk shop about his clients. She agrees to another time if he gives up info on Victor Fries. Tommy never uses their supervillain names, which I think is a nice touch. Wonder what he'll do if he ever has to represent Joker?

Arthur wakes up to the sound of a little girl laughing. He follows the little girl upstairs and we recognize her as Hope, James' daughter. She won;t go anywhere with strangers, even though Arthur is probably one of the few characters on the show that's still pretty squeaky clean. Arthur comes back down and tells Morgan Hope is upstairs. Arthur is left to guard the morgue, but he gets taken down by Lisa. With the coast clear, they start to wheel Nora out of the morgue.

James shows up at MCU.James tells Lisa to check on the morgue. Lisa flies off the handle when she discovers Nora after tearing up the Morgue.

Morgan finds Hope upstairs, hiding under a desk. Daddy was out all night and the babysitter dropped her here. Except she's not alone.

MORGAN: What are you doing, honey?
HOPE: I've been playing hide and seek.
MORGAN: With who?:
HOPE: (pointing) The ghost man.

Morgan turns to see Freeze stalking through the empty offices.

Arthur comes to and sees the standoff between James and Lisa. He takes video of it and sends it to The Bat along with a distress signal.

Morgan hands Hope her phone.

MORGAN: Call your dad as soon as we leave the room.

She turns to face Freeze.

MORGAN: What you want is downstairs.

Guns are drawn and people are shouting. Lisa and James are facing off. Freeze arrives soon after, as does The Bat. Morgan steps between Freeze and Lisa and tells him point blank she needs his help to save his wife.

The Bat arrives and convinces Lisa to stand down. Morgan points out Nora is dying in the hallway because of Jason. He backs down as well. He needs good people like her to be in the places he can't be all the time.

LISA: How do you do it? How do you win all the time?
(The Bat glances over into the morgue. Morgan brushes past Freeze, who is concentrating on Nora. A light on his armor goes from green to red. She's deactivated it to make taking Freeze down easier)
THE BAT: I don't like to lose. (He turns to leave.) But I don't always win.

Tag scenes:

Arthur didn't just send the video to The Bat. He posted it online. As Lisa is leaving Gordon's office without her gun or badge, Tommy rolls up serving papers for a civil suit. Arthur is his client.

Jason goes through old photographs of him and Lisa. He looks conflicted over where they stand. Then he gets another text and heads out the door.

Penguin arrives at Nika's remodeled apartment with flowers and a hair dryer. Penguin continues to be the perfect mix of sad and creepy when dealing with her.He wants to celebrate her new apartment and the expiration of the restraining order. Except Tommy is already there.

Lisa finishes a call to Bruce. She says she's doing fine. The investigation will be hard but she knows The Bat spoke to Gordon for her. Her schedule is free so she's open to do things. She hangs up, putters around her apartment for a few seconds and then sends a text. The door opens up a few moments later and Jason arrives. They embrace and she sinks to the couch with him, crying.

Morgan helps Freeze set up his cell in Arkham. He has a monitor on Nora who is being held in an undisclosed location. They exchange some words of respect and Morgan gives him her diary in exchange for his.

James reveals he's the Jester by putting his equipment away in a secret compartment below Hope's toybox. He puts the mask, gun and suit away. The camera lingers just long enough to see he has a few bugs that look like the one Freeze took off Jason. He shuts the toybox and the screen goes dark, just long enough for us to hear Hope laugh.
